We love the many lemonades we can make when life gives us lemons!
Around Phoenix, lemons are in high season. And they are kind of like zucchini in late summer. If someone you know has a lemon tree, it’s likely they’ve tried to get you to take some.
Wayne Rainey recently gave me a few from his tree.
Hip Veggies supporter Kate harvested 275 from her backyard, and when she got tired of zesting them, invited a group of friends over for a series of limoncello making parties. (More on limoncello in a future blog post!)
And yesterday, these enterprising young neighbors of mine were capitalizing on the bounty. At last count, they had sold $8 and two rocks’ worth of their refreshing beverage.
Speaking of lemonade, it’s a great drink! And when those sunny ovals are falling off the trees, it’s a good idea to have a few variations on the original recipe at hand. I put together a list here to get you started. It should get you through the summer without too much repetition. Rumor has it vodka and tequila are perfect compliments. Be creative with your own version!
Lemons are incredibly versatile in the kitchen and around the house. Throughout April, I will be sharing some things we learned when putting this bag design together. Of course, for you to read over a tasty glass of springtime strawberry lemonade!
